Flair Gun!! Beginning Maya

Some Maya work...
This semester I'm taking a beginning maya class. I really had fun with it. I've never really done maya before this semester and I definitely learnt a lot.

As an aspiring visual development artist, I realize how important it is to know how to use 3D programs.    Maya really helps in making us think and draw in 3D instead of just 2D lines.

Here's some example of my work. This flair gun is a semester long project. My most favorite part of the process would definitely be texturing.

These photos are not the final presentation, still need to tweak the lighting until finals.

It's been a while. Here's some speedies

I have been trying to learn how to paint in photoshop. I would have to say what I struggle with the most is to keep the painting away from being too mushy. I'm still not used to it, but, nevertheless it's really fun. It's such a good stress reliever from my classes. Currently, I am taking classes for maya modeling and traditional animation.

Here's a Sargent copy I did today in photoshop:

How to make it more "painterly" and less "photoshoppy" ?
Gotta practice more!!!!

Pretty Rocks :) Speedy

This was really fun to do especially because of the pretty colors of the rocks! My friend was really nice to lend me some rocks from her collection. The pink one on the top is actually a crystal, which I think is super pretty.

This was done in class for about 1 hour with acrylic.

Egg Rendering

This is my egg rendering from 113B. It was done in acrylic and took 15 hours to finish. The blue cast shadow is the result of placing the egg on blue tone paper. It was really fun and I'm thinking of doing more egg study on different colored tone paper and lighting in the future.

Trees ! ! Trees ! ! :) Week 1

First week of tree drawing!! :) This is for my 113B class. They're not in chronological order by the way. The first ones took me about 1 hour or more, however, I think when I reached the 7th or 8th tree, it took me about 30-40 mins. Really, it depends on the tree :)

At the beginning, I tried experimenting

"The War"

So, this is a color version of the black and white rendering that I did for my 113A class. I scanned it in so, I guess the quality is not really up to par to the real painting. This took a week to do and was done in acrylic. The palette that I used is supposed to be 50% saturation. Meaning, all the colors are supposed to be desaturated and look grey-ish.

Secret Santa :)

My Secret Santa turned out to be Race Oswald!!
He made me this cool illustration, inspired by a song that I chose, called "Sweet Pea" by Amos Lee.
It's so awesome and I like it a LOT!

Thanks Race :)
Awesome Illustration by my art friend, Race Oswald!!
Thanks Race ! : )

This is what I made for Jasmine Ho as I'm her Secret Santa. I know a lot of stuff are off, but, I feel that I've somewhat improved over the semester and understand painting more since I've taken 113A. And overall, this was really fun to paint!
The painting is inspired by the song "Ragged Wood" by Fleet Foxes :)

Did this illustration for a secret santa event. I know a lot of stuff are off, but, I feel that I've somewhat improved over the semester and understand painting more since I've taken 113A.
